5.1M records back to FY2012. Employer-level, SOC-coded, wage-level detail. Catches visa-heavy companies cutting specific roles.
SEC 8-K Restructurings
Item 2.05 filings with extracted dollar amounts, affected-employee counts, and plan summaries.
Chapter 11 Bankruptcies
PACER RSS across ~90 bankruptcy courts plus FJC historical archive. Cross-referenced to WARN filings.
Unemployment Claims
DOL weekly initial + continued claims by state, 1984 to present. State-level labor market health signal.
JOLTS Turnover
BLS job openings, hires, separations, quits, layoffs by industry and state. 20-year history.
What we ask for (and what we don't)
Our rule, up front: day-one access is a clean gift. We do not ask for citation. We do not ask for a quote. We do not ask for a mention. If our data is useful, reporters cite it when it's natural; if it isn't, we want to know that too. Access does not depend on either.
What does help us decide whether to grant comp access:
- You're a reporter, editor, producer, or researcher at a news organization, a freelance journalist with recent published work, or a graduate student/academic working on labor or immigration topics.
- You tell us roughly what you cover (layoffs, immigration, tech, a specific beat, etc.) so we can tune what we send.
- Your outlet is not affiliated with a company we'd be informing on — e.g., a PR firm's internal newsroom or a recruiter's "content shop" doesn't qualify.
What's in the weekly Distress Report
Sent Mondays. 1–2 pages. Top 10 U.S. companies showing 3+ distress signals in the past seven days, where the signals are:
- A WARN filing 30+ days before any public 8-K
- A sudden LCA freeze (drop in H-1B filings relative to same quarter last year)
- Multi-state WARN cluster (3+ states in 14 days)
- 8-K Item 2.05 overlap with a concurrent WARN filing
- Post-WARN Chapter 11 filing (WARN first, bankruptcy within 90 days)
- H-1B cliff (terminations of visa workers clustered within a pay cycle)
Every entry includes the underlying filing(s), a methodology link, and a plaintext block you can paste into your CMS without reformatting. For top-3 reporters on a beat we also offer a 24–48hr embargoed look at the monthly trend report.
On-call data pulls
If you're on a breaking story and need a specific cut — e.g., "all WARN notices in Orange County, California, over 100 employees, last 18 months" or "H-1B petitions for Company X by SOC code" — email us. We'll send back a clean CSV. Target response is same business day.
Request press comp access
Takes 30 seconds. We'll respond with a Professional API key and add you to the Monday report. If we have questions we'll email you directly.
Also on this site: data provenance & compliance (useful if you're fact-checking a vendor claim), live risk-signal methodology, published weekly reports, and the public API docs.
